Exceptions worth knowing
Certain species — like maples and birches — "bleed" sap heavily if pruned in late winter, so early summer is sometimes preferred for them instead. And if a limb is dead, cracked, or hanging dangerously, it should be removed immediately regardless of season — safety takes priority over timing.
